This unique, stunning and intimate camp provides incomparable hospitality in magnificent surrounds and luxurious style.
Overview
Located in the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy, bordering the Masai Mara, the wildlife is prolific, and unlike actually in the Masai Mara, you can enjoy night game drives. At Mara Plains the safari experience is intimate and personal, with no set schedule or set meal times. The day’s activities and dining arrangements are tailored around guest preference and the wildlife opportunities of the day.
Olare Motorogi Conservancy is reputed to have the lowest vehicle numbers in the Masai Mara region, while also having the highest concentration of big cats anywhere in Africa. There is only one guest bed per 350 acres, leaving the land unsullied for the wildlife to roam and thrive, as nature intended. By day and night, the camp is a sanctuary for resident species, including many of the Masai Mara’s 300 bird species. After dark, larger mammals frequent the camp and Masai warriors escort guests to and from their rooms. Hippos snorting and leopards barking often provide the night music.
The camp is reached by walking across a bridge over the river, and it is here that the amazing endless horizon treats your eyes to a visual masterpiece – nature at its finest. The décor of the camp compliments and embraces its surrounds with strong teak structures, flowing fabrics and delightful open-air spaces.
Delicious food is served both in the dining room and outdoors, as group or individual settings. You can indulge in your favourite tipple in the bar, relax in the main lounge and library on raised decks with superb views. Refreshments and snacks are served on game drives and include tea and coffee on the morning drive and the traditional sundowners in the late afternoon.
Children younger than 8 years are not permitted at the camp.
Rooms
There are only 7 tents, on raised wooden decking, accommodating just 14 guests. The light and airy tents are large with a spacious private verandah, a dressing area, a small lounge and a desk. The tents have en suite facilities with flush toilet, shower, copper bathtub, double basins and hot and cold running water. Each guest tent is equipped with a professional Canon camera and lenses and a pair of Swarovski binoculars for your use.
