Experience the Extraordinary
Discover Nuwara Eliya
Nuwara Eliya is located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, with a charming landscape and temperate climate. The city is best known for its frequent tea production and is overlooked by Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka.
Misted tea fields, tumbling waterfalls, sensational views, and a striking train ride… There is no better way to describe this region than simply dreamy.
The journey here is amongst the most photographed in the world – the railroad runs over bridges, through fields and valleys and past winding rivers, an Eden-like portrait of nature at its finest. Once your feet are firmly on the ground, there are plenty of opportunities to trek amongst the forests and even bathe in the natural pools.
Nuwara Eliya is also known as `Little England’ due to its cooler climate and colonial-era bungalows. The town also enjoys mist-shrouded mountains and dramatic landscapes.
Just 20 miles from the town centre, visitors can explore Horton Plains National Park, featuring the picturesque Great World’s End Drop.
Sinhala and Tamil are the two main languages spoken in Nuwara Eliya, however English is also widely spoken amongst the locals. During April, the town celebrates Puthandu (or the Tamil New Year) and all local families celebrate together.
