Overview
Botswana is safari country and Bakwena is ideally positioned, 1.5 kms upstream from the meeting place of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Botswana. The lodge is close to the Chobe National Park and forest reserve, 90 kms from Victoria Falls and Livingstone, 300 kms west of the Okavango Delta and lies due north of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans.
The personal touch of the owners, Adam and Jen, is apparent throughout, from the hand-selected furniture to the food served at meal times, where simple African-fusion dishes inspired by traditional Setswana cuisine are offered.
Chobe Bakwena Lodge strives to be as eco-friendly as possible. Chalets are built using the ecobeam method, utilizing a pole structure and sandbag infill, a method which has been used around the world and has many distinct advantages. Materials and furniture used are locally sourced and upcycled and solar energy, recycling and composting are high priorities at Bakwena.
Rooms
There are 10 rondavel style chalets, two of which are family units, all situated under the shady canopy of Acacia trees. Each chalet site has been selected for its river view and is surrounded by indigenous riverine bush.Built around both ecological and traditional African principles, the chalets each have a raised deck overlooking the river and built-in daybeds offering ample opportunity to absorb the changing moods of the Chobe. All chalets have an interior bathroom opening onto an outside garden with an outside shower.
