Our approach to Corporate Social Responsibility is focused on enriching economies, protecting environments and uplifting communities in Africa and the Indian Subcontinent. Below are some of the charities and initiatives we are privileged to support.
As a Kenyan company, Somak Luxury Travel is committed to supporting health and well-being in East Africa. Every East African holiday we offer includes complimentary Amref Flying Doctors Maisha Air Ambulance cover, and we contribute $16 per traveller to Amref Health Africa.
Amref delivers community-based healthcare across Africa, with a strong focus on women and children. Its work improves access to medical services, strengthens local health systems and supports lasting change. We are proud that our guests play a role in this vital mission.
We are delighted to support the Mara Rianda Charitable Trust, whose ethos aligns perfectly with our own. The Trust was founded by Richard Long, who in 2003 visited the Mara Rianda Primary School and learned of its many needs. Since then, Richard has returned regularly to assist the school and wider community.
The Trust has broadened its reach to include maternity and medical care as well as further educational projects. A key focus is funding secondary school places for children who would otherwise miss out on education. To date, more than 200 boys and girls have been supported, giving them opportunities they never thought possible and the supply of desks, books and sanitary products to schools.
As a joint collaboration a borehole bringing fresh water to a village of 650 people was part-funded by funds from the Masai Mara park fees, which also contribute to supporting wider community development in the region.
For every package holiday booked to Kenya, we donate £10 per person directly to the Trust, ensuring that our guests help to support meaningful, lasting change in the Maasai Mara.
From 2025, Somak Luxury Travel is proud to support the East Africa Character Development Trust, which uses sport to empower young people in Nairobi’s disadvantaged communities. Its School Programme combines sport with life skills to build confidence, teamwork and leadership.
The charity also runs community sports clubs and a Post School Structured Support Programme that focuses on female empowerment, training and employment opportunities. By helping young people realise their potential, EACDT creates brighter futures across East Africa.
