The Land of a Thousand Hills
Discover Rwanda
Though one of the smallest countries on the African mainland, Rwanda offers adventures that rival the continent’s most iconic destinations. With its rolling volcanoes, winding rivers, rare wildlife, and temperate tropical climate, Rwanda is a paradise for travellers seeking both serenity and excitement.
The bamboo forests of Parc National de Volcans are home to Rwanda’s most celebrated residents—the mountain gorillas. Over half of the world’s mountain gorillas reside here, amid five dormant volcanoes. This region was also the base of the renowned anthropologist Dian Fossey, whose work was immortalised in Gorillas in the Mist. Following in her footsteps to trek among these gentle giants is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for wildlife enthusiasts.
Rwanda is also home to Nyungwe Forest, one of Africa’s best-preserved rainforests. Towering canopies of mahogany and ebony shelter a variety of primates, including chimpanzees and the endangered golden monkeys, whose distinctive orange hue adds a splash of colour to the verdant surroundings. For those seeking a unique perspective, the forest offers several exhilarating canopy walks.
For alpine adventurers, the Virunga Volcano range provides a challenging yet rewarding trek. Comprising eight volcanic peaks, two of which remain active, the ascent offers unparalleled panoramic views over Rwanda’s lush landscapes and dramatic scenery.
